Hello everyone, I am looking at the Pompano 120 and looking for thoughts and opinions from anyone that might have one themselves. I have read enough to find out that it is based on the older Tarpon 120. I have not laid eyes on one personally yet. Any help is appreciated. Thanks again.

I have a Pompano 120 and really like it! I'm a new kayak angler, and have only had this boat out a few times. In the water, this yak is very stable and I can even stand in it if the water is calm. Just this past weekend I took it down / up the New River and it handled like a champ. It tracks very well on the river as well as flat water. The Pompano has scupper holes under the seat which helps out in keeping your rear end dry. Some of the other boats I looked at in my price range did not have the holes (under the seat), so you'd be sitting in water unless you dumped the boat. There are a total of 6 holes in the seat / leg area & two more in the rear bringing the total to 8 scupper holes. So, it drains very well.

From all of my research, this seems like one of the best boat you can buy (new) for $499. The plastic is very solid and doesn't scratch easily. It comes outfitted with an anchor trolley, flush rod mounts, and a Scotty rod holder mount up front. The front hatch is pretty much water proof. I flipped mine last weekend and there was not a drop of water in it. There are also two "waterproof" storage areas within easy reach. I also like the hatch bungees that keep the front lid down during transport or down the river. These also work as a nice paddle holder when your fishing.

I will say that you need to buy a seat and the actual Scotty rod holder, which you probably already know from reading up on the yak. My seat is a high back seat from Surf to Summit and it's very comfortable. I purchased the boat and seat when it was on sale and feel that I scored a pretty good deal. It's on sale right now for $425.00 from West Marine.

If you want any specific pictures, please let me know and I'll be glad to take and post a few of my boat.

Eric

Thanks for the reply, and pictures would be awesome! Also, how does the seat mount in yours?

Here are some pics of my Pompano.

Seat area without the seat. Notice the scupper holes...

This is my seat clipped into the boat. I use the front pad eyes near the handles to help support the seat around my torso.

I also use the pad eyes just behind my seat for the back support.

It came rigged with an anchor trolley... just add your own anchor.

Bottom of the boat

Here's a little pouch...not sure how I'll use this. Now, it has a koosie in it. :)

The back of the boat. This has a 'cut-out' if you will for a bucket or a milk crate.

And finally, here's the whole thing.

Let me know if you'd like more pics or if you have any other questions.
