I'd have to say that if you can't stand in the Ultimate you won't be standing in the Cuda. You definitely should spend some time practicing because kayaks like the Ultimate and Commander are the easiest to stand in. They will shake a little from side to side but they do stop once you put all your weight down. I can stand on one leg in my Commander.

When do you plan on going out? Maybe we can meet up and I'll give you some paddling advice and help? I will be gone this weekend but I have all Monday available, evenings, and weekends.

Thanks ECpirates96 for that info. I'm glad to find out there's a store nearby. Have you been fishing in your Cuda lately? I've been trying to go down to New Bern myself. My thinking is with the dry spell we've been having the water should be more salty and maybe someone could pick up a flounder or two.

Thanks ECpirates96 for the info on Rum Runners. That would be a much shorter ride

Thanks for the offer Druminator and the info. Man I must sound really pitiful ha ha. Your right though I need to spend more time on the water. Work has been keeping me busy and I'm not sure when I'll be off again this week. You said you have the commander, how do you like it? I was looking at one at Outdoor Provision in greenville on July 4th. It looks very simular to the ultimate except for that track system on the outside. I went to get a carbon fiber paddle and of course they had sold out of the BB Angler in the 240cm. I ended up purchasing a Aqua Bond 230cm. I've been told 2 different ways of sizing your paddle, one was have the paddle 2 to 4 inches longer than your reach and the other is exactly the length of your reach. What do you think about this? Again thanks for the info

BoneKrusher. You nailed it that the flounder are getting thick up the river but they are mostly small. If you and Druminator setup a meet let me know and I will join you to test out the cuda. I will be out of town the next couple of weeks and then I hope to hit the water hard. If you decide to cut loose the Ultimate let me know. I need a second for my wife but I think she wants a cuda also.

By the way I got the BB angler ace and really like it. Great paddle in the 240 which is good for me since I am 6'2" and paddle the 30" cuda.

Thanks for the info ECpirates96, glad to here someone has been catching some flounder in the New Bern area. Sounds like the BB Angler paddle is working well for you. I noticed the Aqua Bound carbon fiber paddle I purchased had slightly smaller blades, but I was told by the staff I wouldn't see a big difference. As soon as I get an opportunity to go I will b able to give it a work out. Speaking of the Cuda, my son wants to go take a look at it so we're going to make another trip to Outdoor Provisions in greenville.

I forgot to ask if you would let us know what bait you were using on the flounder. I'm thinking gulp shrimp and pogy should work. Any info on flounder fishing would be greatly appreciated ha h since I haven't had much luck. Thanks again .

Bonekrusher, sorry so long to get back with you. You don't sound pitiful! I do lessons all year with folks who are looking to improve their skills.

The length of the paddle is based on your height and the width of the kayak. Neither of those methods of paddle sizing are correct. There are no adding inches or anything like that. Was it someone at our store who told you that? I'll make sure to correct that. Most people are fine in the 220cm range so long as they aren't over 6'2" or the kayak isn't over 30" wide.

I do have the Commander 140 and love it. It's a fishing machine and very workable. I like having the captains seat up top and usually leave the Phase 3 seat in the car. The Slide Trax rail makes adding accessories easy. I've got the anchor trolley, bow, and stern covers. The downside is that it's not much of a kayak for camping out of or doing anything besides fishing. I hope to add the Tarpon 160 to my fleet sometime this year for doing extended paddles and camping trips.
