I am new to kayak fishing and I am fortunate to have a small 30 acre lake in my backyard full of bass, crappie and blue gill.

I aquired a cheap (price and probably quality) field and stream eagle talon SOT and have taken it out on the lake a few times. I have caught a few small bass and a blue gill but I am searching for the bigger bass.

I really want to try saltwater but don't know where to start, I wan't something easy. I am thinking the Fort Fisher area and do have a 4x4, any advice?

Also, the Pro Basser's around here seem to look down and laugh at you if you don't have an expensive boat and equipment, is it like that amongst kayakers?

Amen. Ask them how much they spent on gas. Funny story i was at the boat ramp sunday. I was walking up to get our tralier when i seen a high dollar bass boat back in. Two kids got out an sorta laughed as we loaded our yaks. You could tell we looked inferior to them. Then there father came don.the ramp and seen our yaks. He asked about them and looked at his kids and told them if gas keeps going up yall will be paddling. They looked devastated. Moral of the story is. Once u learn the value of a dollar u really apperciate. It.

Dredre,

If you want to test out some salt, i highly recommend oak island sound side. Low boat traffic and very manageable for first timers...

Im from fayetteville and usually try to head out there once a month.... more than willing to split gas with some one for a trip
