Name is Jay, recently got a tandem kayak for my girlfriend and me. She loves fishing. I bought a perception double play and then got crazy into rigging it. Ended up cutting hatches, fish finders, lashing straps etc. Had almost more fun rigging than we did fishing.

She's going to be going to Hawaii for a few months, (both of us are in the Army) I guess my question is that once she leaves I want to try and fish in some of the tournaments I found on here, would I be able to do that from the Tandem or would I need to go get a regular one man kayak?

Anyway, thanks for any info. We are going to try our luck down chasing reds and specks here this weekend.

Hey thanks for the hellos. My girlfriend and I are headed down to the Fort Fisher area this weekend. Any tips on where to start? I grew up chasing trout and can pull big trout out of a stream 8 feet wide, but the idea of fishing for Reds and Specks kind of intimidates me. Especially in our little kayak. haha

Jay, after you log in click on 'active topics'. You should see some headings re other folks heading to F this weekend or some reports on where to fish there.

I usually put in at the boat launch past the ferry on the rising tide, then head out to the right towards the sea wall. Fish the breaks in the wall where the tide rushes through with live bait (2-3" minnows) hanging from a cork. Gulp shad in copper penny work also especially if sprayed with a little scent.

Good luck!
