I thought this would get everyones attention:
On the Native Owners group they started doing this "Get to Know you" forum and it's a smart idea and we're going to copy it. Imitation is the best form of flatery so here it goes.
Hello, my name is Mark Patterson and am 41 years old. I am married to Angela who takes all the really nice photo's for the NCKFA and is very supportive ( helpiing put the mailing packages together for sponsors) I also have to wonderful step daughters, one of Taylor is at NC State and the Carley is at Caldwell and in the 7th grade. They don't get the fishing craze but they do enjoy riding in the Kayak.
I have been fishing since I was about 5 when my grandmother would take me to the little creek below our house in Eden and we would catch bullheads, bluegill and carp. I started the NCKFA to meet other kayak anglers and it's been great so far. I guide part time and my real source of income is my painting company Patterson Painting Inc. I started this when I was in college and enjoyed being the boss (and have 3 day weekends to go to the coast and camp out and fish ) and have been the owner fo over 20 years now. I graduated from Greensboro College and then Chapel Hill with a major in Biology minors in Phy. and Chem. I will probably start teaching when I'm 50 and retire from the school system since the ladder is getting taller and heavier than when I was 30! Other than kayak fishing I enjoy playing racquetball at The Club and the guys there are great and it's a great workout without having to stay on the bike or stiarmaster for what seems like forever. I also love snooker (European type of pool ) but only play in the winter because if I've got 2-3 hours free time and it's not freezing I'm out on the water fishing but I do watch it on YouTube year round. I enjoy all typers of fishing from Carp/trout/Shark/Drum etc. just being on the water is great and I love kayaking due to the fact I don't have all the hassels you do with a boat (which i've had for years until I discovered kayaking and sold them all). So , there is my world in a paragraoh or three. Please take time to add your "profile". We all really would like to know more about you.
thanks for reading
mark

Steve Crowder (aka FireFly) from Matthews, North Carolina. Married to Rosalind and two grown daughters out and gone :D. I have been a power company lineman for over 40 years now. Have been fishing almost all of my life, thanks to my father. Taught myself how to fly fish almost 40 years ago and have been fly fishing exclusively for 18 years. Never been great at it, but do love to fish that way. Also a self taught fly tyer, again not the best, but really enjoy tying flies. Found out about this kayak fishing craze 3 years ago and became interested in it. A little over 2 years ago I got serious about buying a fishing kayak. Went everywhere and tried out all kinds of kayaks. Went to several Getoutdoors demos and really enjoyed the people there. I learned about NuCanoes and visted with Frank Bandy at Tarriverpaddle Sports. It was love at first paddle. The NuCanoe is just the right boat for me. As they say in kayaking, you don't sit in a kayak, you fit in a kayak. This boat fits me prefect. I am really glad that Mark got this web site up and going. Thanks Marks. We really needed this site here in North Carolina for solely kayak fishing. Glad to be here and anxious to meet all of you soon. Was not able to get to Greensboro last weekend, but will try to make the next meeting. Looking into getting over to the coast at the next get together. Not into the salt yet, but maybe some fresh water close buy.

Thanks for the info and the kind words. I have a question about fly tying...can you or is there a fly the actaully mimicks a small leech or worm for small mouth? I have bought stuff that is supposed to ie woolly buggers butthey are not long enough nor do they "move right" in the water. I know some of the movement problem may be my fault but come on there's got to be something better.
please advise,
mark

Mark, there are several methods you can try, first being Zonker strips. You can shape and cut to your desired style. Also look for rabbit strips, straight and cross cut style. They come in alot of different colors. Quite a few fly tying books show the "Bunny Leech" in their articles. Good luck and show pictures of your catches.

A Zonker strip is a strip of rabbit fur (hair is found on live animals, fur is what it becomes once the animal is dead - that's my trivia offering for today).

GOP in Greensboro or Winston would have it, along with Bass Pro in Charlotte. Maybe Gander Mt. Not sure though.

You never hurt the resource when you return a fish to the water.

The fish you remove from the water today is one you can't catch again tomorrow.

Carry a camera - a photo of a fish lasts a lot longer than a fish does.

Hello everyone!

My name is Celia and I have been kayak fishing for over a year now (minus hunting season ;-)). I really got into fishing after I redeployed from Iraq (fall 2009) and have continued to expand my fishing capabilities ever since. I love to fly fish, saltwater fish, and fresh water fish. It is safe to say if an event involves fishing of 'almost' any kind I'm all about it - except for those guys who put themselves inside a large metal cage (using themselves and some chum) to catch a glimpse of a great white OR the backwater boys who use their arms to "noodle" a huge catfish in a murky creek. That is just a little too CR@ZY for me!!!

Anywho, I predominantly fish areas in and around Sanford, Jordan Lake, Greensboro, and Burlington. I REALLY enjoy making some trips down to Fort Fisher and when the trout are running in the mountains I enjoy wading in and around Asheville trying to land em on the fly. Michelle and I lare trying to keep the Fort Bragg - Cape chapter of Fear Heroes on the Water going strong for 2011. There are a lot of great trips and even a few tournaments lined up that both the team and HOW Participants are excited about. :-)

I am not a loyal blogger, facebooker, tweeter or other social media-er, so don't hold your breath. I respond much quicker if you shoot me a profile message, email, text or call. I look forward to getting to know more of everyone soon! Happy fishing! =)

- Celia (aka - LadyYAKfisher)

Great to have you on the site , you both do so much for Heros on the Water and are great examples of stewards on the water. See you at the Fort tomorrow!

brigadoon, you may also want to look into the San Juan Worm as another possible fly pattern to mimic a leech or worm. You can vary the color to fit the need.

Pretty easy to tie as well....Here's a pretty decent vid.

Hi I'm Mike and I moved t0 Jamestown, from San Diego after retiring, to be closer to family and work on my bucket list. When I spoke to the genie, my third wish was to be able to fish. Thought he would understand that included catching. Still, I'm doing better than when I first arrived. Have seen people kayaking during my travels and people I've met here seemed to enjoy it. When I started looking I visited the usual suspects, Dicks, Sports Authority. During a visit to Gteat Outdoods a fellow shopper said don't buy w/o going to Get Outdoors. I had joinded Nat Greene and received good; Where and How to info, but they were short on the let's go. After my 2 trips to Get Outdoors I had a Native ultimate 12 and info about NCKFA. I confirmed that I was helped/steered to the right chioce at the recent demo day. Attended the recent NCKFA smallmouth tourney looking for a chance to meet other yakers. Didn't get a chane to meet everyone (too many people too little time). The 6 hour drift/paddle was more work than I expected. The poor water conditions didn't dampen the experience or the future expectations. Talked to a yaker from (I think Smithfield who I didn't catch before leaving), interested in drowning bait. I'm always looking for an opportunity to fish during my free time. Intend to travel to New Bern/Morehead/Swansboro are third week of Sept. Looking for hints on good places to fish, when there or if anyone could stand a tag along looking to learn the ropes.
