I'm Dave meet my wife (Pam) in high school. (1976) Wife and I both surf fish and love the coast. I stopped hunting a couple of years ago and went back into surf fishing like crazy. Rarely fish lakes or rivers stick to salt. Got into Yakking a couple of years ago and enjoy taking it out thru the surf to drop shark baits. Plan on hitting the sounds and back water more now. My dad has a place at Oak Island that he can't use any more so I head there or Fort Fisher most of the time. We try to make it to Hatteras at least once a year. Our schedules are crazy right now so we don't get a chance to get down as often as we like now.

Welcome Dave,
I too am a big fan of surf fishing...especially in Oct/Nov at Buxton/Avon area around the point. My dad, myself and two of my friends spend a week in "Heaven" there every year and we love it. My son and I have been yak fishing for approx a year and love it so much that I have my power boat up for sale.

Not sure where you live but always looking for partners to fish with.

That's funny. I was talking with a friend the other day who was selling his boat and said he had noticed several others doing the same since kayak fishing was fun, fast and easy.
I'm in Raleigh. I hit Fort Fisher most of the time because it's an easy day trip for us.

I am Doug and unlike some of the others on here, I sold my boat and then got into kayak fishing. Got tired of the idiots on the lakes.

I live in Winston-Salem and just got a Tarpon 120 a couple of months ago and looking for folks to do some days trips with that might help me learn some of the local rivers and ponds. Shoot me a PM, I can get away on short notice a lot of times.

Rodeo Clown,

You have some pretty good fishing very close to you, or will have soon. Salem Lake has been closed for just over a year now due to the dam being rebuilt. The lake level was dropped by half or more, but the fish were preserved. I think the lake is scheduled to reopen for fishing next spring.

The thing is - any time you take the fishing pressure off a body of water for any prolonged period, the fishing will rebound like crazy. It is conceivable that over the next year, Salem Lake will be one of the hottest lakes in the state (that'll pass of course, as fishermen remove most of the fish) but for a year or so, you'll have a great spot right in your own backyard.

Salem Lake contains most of the usual variety of fish, including largemouth bass, bream, crappie and catfish. The real treat are the hybrid bass, which are currently gorging themselves on the baitfish which are trapped in what now amounts to a smaller body of water. When the lake refills and opens next spring, you owe it to yourself to be there on opening day with your kayak.

You never hurt the resource when you return a fish to the water.

The fish you remove from the water today is one you can't catch again tomorrow.

Carry a camera - a photo of a fish lasts a lot longer than a fish does.

Hi, I'm Darrell from Wilmington. I moved into the area 15 years ago from Los Angeles. I also owned a power boat out there that got left behind in the move fearing the loss of being on the water and being an eco friendly person, I switched to kayaking and have never looked back. My grand parents turned me into a little fisherman around the age of three on lake Erie in Ohio where I grew up. I have enjoyed all forms of the sport from fly fishing in Montana, Huge Halibut in the Pacific to the wonderful Red Drum here at home.
I am married to Colleen and have two grown daughters,Samantha and Sasha. I have worked in the film industry for the past 30 years and am a camera operator on TV shows, feature films and commercials. The business allows me to travel the world and fish many places when I'm there, meeting the locals and finding out many new ways to hook up the fish du jour.
My daughter Samantha has been kind enough to give us two grandsons now who are old enough to fish and I enjoy getting them onto them when they visit from Pittsboro. I really enjoy the fishing here in the Wilmington area and all the fellow kayakers I have met here through NCKFA, what a great group. I also get to enjoy fishing Charleston as well as work takes me there often. I can see what the conserving of the fisheries can do for species(join cca) while fishing there, just an amazing place to fish! I look forward to many more days out there with my old and new friends-just drop me a line (pun intended) anytime.
Cheers and tight lines-Darrell

Hello my name is Gary I am married to my wife Pam we have 2 girls with a boy due in jun . I have fished all my life between grandparents and friends i can track pics farther back than i can remeber . i fish freshwater mostly i have been kayaking 8yrs now before kayaking i had a 1man strip boat sort of a perow kinda thing but maintance was to high and plastic only needed a hose down (instead of sanding and staining) . I bass fish by default my love is light tackle panfish i will take a white bass or yellow perch any day over a 2lb bass .. I do get very happy over 4lb bass even though they are a regular catch on some of the local rivers ... I was a construction manager for a grading contractor before the economy dropped through issues beyond my control found myself wiht out work for ruffly two years . in which time i worked on perfecting my catch rate and starting my guide service Froggywaters.com i offer kayak and canoe trips with making memories our goal by offering a high sucess rate and many boat options . Anyone looking for a kayak should see someone like me or Mark first to help you with your investment we have seat time and can help you with things you might not see in a testing sesion

side note : Thank you Mark for this site it has been an enjoyment to be a part of

Hi, I'm Frank and I had given up fishing for the past four or five years, but I have decided to give it another try. I'm a past president of the Carolina Kayak Club and I'm very involved in paddling kayaks in all sorts of water. I'd be willing to trade paddling lessons to make you a faster, safer, quieter paddler for some fly casting lessons. I'm an ACA Coastal Kayak instructor, and this is my first year in instructing paddling sports even though I've been paddling my own boat since I was six.

I enjoy learning new things about paddling and fishing and hope to meet others with similar interests.

I'm in Raleigh and always looking for folks to fish with so let me know if you want to go. I mostly want to fish for bass and brim, but I like to troll a line around the sounds and off the beach.

Hi Guys and Gals,

I'm Craig and live in Washington, NC. I just bought a used Native Ultimate 12 and am in process of setting it up for fishing. I did a guided fishing trip with Nathan Raycroft early this year and was sold on the Ultimate. I like it's stability and security of being a sit-in. I plan on doing some photography from the Ult-12 as well, so keeping cameras dry is important. I plan to start fishing the river around Washington and venture out to some of the lakes in the area, hoping to catch bass and bream on the fly rod. I grew up fishing around coastal SC and GA, so I'm more experienced fishing the marshes and creeks than the brackish river. I haven't quite figured out the fishing in this area yet. I've had some luck with the stripers, but not so much on the reds and trout. If anyone wants to buddy-up and try some local waters, I'm game. I'm open to drive to the coast, like Beaufort or Swansboro. I love those areas.

Anyway, just wanted to say Hello and that I hope to see some of you guys around.

Craig
