Hello!! I am brand new to North Carolina. I'm originally form Greenville SC but me and my family have just moved to Kinston NC. I have been and still are a member of SC kayak fishing so I thought I'd join up here. I fish out of a Tarpon 120 and I used to be primarily a fresh water man but I'm very interested in catching some salt stuff now that I am closer. I fished Havelock Monday evening and caught one little striper but lost two large fish. I went back today and caught two little bass but that was it. I've been told you can catch flounder reds and trout there too. Maybe yall can give me some tips on brackish water. I'd love to target flounder. Those flat fish have always caught my interest. Well greetings thanks for all the helpful stuff on your site

Josh

You are a little early on the flounder. This summer you will be killing the trout, flounder and redfish. There should be some trout mixed with those strippers now in the back of the creek you are fishing in. From Kinson you have easy access to both New Bern, Havelock and Morehead with all have great lauches and fishing. Go by Neuse Sport shop for tips and tackle from the employees they are glad to help. I have fished all these areas but am looking at my first yak purchase. Been running a skiff for so long I don't even own a paddle.

Josh,

Welcome to North Carolina and hope you're setting into Kinston, NC! Great job on the striper from Havelock. Where did you end up launching?

Morehead City and Newport River are seeing the yearly influx of blue fish right now, which can be a blast (or annoying...depending on your passion!) Flounder have been found around Wilmington already, though they usually do hit there sooner than here. I haven't fished locally enough lately to know whether or not folks have been catching them around Morehead City way...but it won't be long!

Welcome, again and hope you're enjoying your new homestead in North Carolina (the "other" God's Country).

Nathan

*Thankful for every minute on the water; even more so when there are fish in the kayak!*

thanks for the welcome!!
I put on right under the airplane. It was a pretty place to fish but I didn't get the striper until I got into the bigger water.
